Graduation Evacuation
Posted by tom | Jun 22, 2005Great to read of InterVarsity's commitment to address the 'Graduation Evacuation.' and see the development of the Youth Transition Initiative (YTI).
This is an area that demands much effort as we live among loose connections across the spectrum of our life endeavors. Much work to be done in this area. Material which I've used (or had a part in developing) can be found here. If you'd be interested in having a presentation at your local congregation for parents, youth ministers, and/or high schoolers let me know.
By delivering the Big Picture of the Gospel, Next Steps seeks to enable ...
Students to flourish by- Identifying first with Christ, not their major, extra-curriculars, relationships, school
- Embracing Christ and s perspective on faith and life prior to entrance into college;
- Connecting with fellowships and local congregations as part of campus visits
- Knowing that they have taken steps to direct their children to godly influences for their years in college.
- Understanding the changes students go through as they explore their identity in college and how to communicate in ways that promote spiritual formation.
- Coming with a proven set of materials which will challenge your students for spiritual growth beyond youth group.
- Knowing you are preparing youth group members not just to survive, but to thrive in college.
Note: excellent resources can be found at the Center for Parent & Youth Understanding (CPYU) and Keeping Your Faith. For the transition out of college, check out Following Jesus in the "Real World".
