Onward, Moderate Christian Soldiers

Taking off of Billy Graham's confession of Democratic Party affiliation, I thought this piece by a former Senator and current Episcopal priest would be a good read. Love to have your reactions to these words coming from the Republican side of the aisle and officiant for President Reagan's funeral . . .

Onward, Moderate Christian Soldiers

By JOHN C. DANFORTH It is important for those of us who are considered moderates to make the case that we have strongly held Christian convictions.

I think this article touches on an issue raised earlier by Tom - why do groups making hard, divisive claims have such a strong appeal? It seems like a part of human nature to want to be grouped with similar people against dissimilar people. The stronger the criteria, the easier it is to identify "us" and "them". It's much harder to maintain a sense of personal identity and conviction while being in fellowship with others who hold different convictions. Nonetheless, I agree that this narrow path down the middle is the one Jesus calls us to follow.
