CMU Pornography Conversation Continues
Posted by tom | Dec 7, 2005Please continue to pray for our students, faculty, and ministry to find helpful ways of entering the conversation regarding the an appropriate articulation of how beings created as men and women in the image of God can relate in a healthy manner in a public/secular forum such as CMU. A number of articles can be found at http://www.thetartan.org/ (note: type tba film in the search feature on the top right of page) and there will be a campus forum on Sunday, December 11.
In response, we are particularly exploring the possibility of scheduling a spring forum/speaker in relationship to events like Sex Week, for a calendar of a previous year.
As our morning crew discussed today, may we find our satisfaction in Christ, may we entrust our life/desires to Him (So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature . . . Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:16, 25), and by His grace extend the Bread of Life to the hungry in our midst. Thank-you for praying for and sending us on this daily, complex, and vital ministry.
Note: The sensationalist KDKA coverage, which is critiqued in a helpful way by the Tartan, does not appear to still be on-line (updated 11/20/08).

The more I think about it, the more I dislike the idea of approaching the conversation from the perspective of "I don't want my money to pay for ___." While it is a safer, perhaps more understandable stance from a secular point of view, it is really not the point at all. The point is about the culture that is created on campus, and what our fees does or does not pay for doesn't change culture or anyone's individual beliefs on porn.
