9/6/06 Eden Update
Posted by tom | Sep 7, 2006If you've been wondering why we've stopped posting Eden updates on the blog, it's because we've gone a whole 3 months without seeing a doctor!! But, alas, we're getting back into the groove since our move (ooh, good rhyme).
Eden has recently begun Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy(OT) . . .
Both therapies happen in our home (well, our temporary home) as they did in Pgh. We have lots of suggestions of things to work on now.
Eden has made great progress over the summer. She's a very fast belly-crawler, especially when she's about to "go after" something she shouldn't, such as cords. She'll look at me to make sure I'm watching her and then she'll scuttle after the forbidden object. Ellen often asks Eden to follow her around the house and Eden eagerly obliges. She LOVES to be around her big sisters and they often include her in their pretend play. She's also become adept at taking steps when you hold her hands. She's still quite wobbly, but now she knows what to do with her feet. This is her preferred activity, so it's good that there are so many adults in the house to cater to her whims. She is also trying desperately to pull herself up to stand. She doesn't use her right arm to help or hold on, so that is limiting her. But she can pull herself up onto her knees. And although she will go to hands-and-knees, she has not taken a "crawling step" yet. Close, but not yet. She works very hard and is often damp with sweat from her effort.
We made our first visit to Hershey Medical Center, where Eden's specialists will be. We met Dr. Mark Dias her neurosurgeon who will be overseeing her care. He was very nice and gave us a lot of information. Eden will have an MRI in November at which time we'll meet with Dr. Dias again. We also have names of other specialists and will need to make appointments soon. We also were able to get Eden accepted at a pediatrician and we've heard many good things about the doctors there (thought she couldn't get an appt. until Oct. 31).
So, that's the latest. We'll continue to post updates as they occur. Thanks again for your prayers and concern.
Theresa

I can't believe how mobile she is! It's so great to hear about her progress. Hope it goes well with her new doctors.
