5K Walk/Run, Memorial Day
Posted by tom | May 28, 2007On Saturday, 3 parties crossed the Columbia-Wrightsville bridge for the 7th Annual 5K River Run & Walk. Theresa and Eunice took the lead, even though Theresa had a viral infection which took her out of commission most of Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday! Hayley, Ellen, and Tom took the middle. Carl and Eden took the back. At the 2nd mile marker Carl crossed to the other side. Hayley and Ellen caught up and walked with Carl and Eden, giving Tom the opportunity to blaze ahead, unable to catch-up to Theresa and Eunice who had already crossed the line, cheering me on. Then Tom turned around and coaxed Ellen to run up the hill to the finish line. Lots of Gatorade and granola bars later, we left to drop-off Theresa for an instant strep test which came back negative. Comparatively speaking, Theresa's feeling better this morning, but her voice is still scratchy. Tom's hoping she's back together by tomorrow so she can visit some friends this week and give him space to write.
By-the-way, the little bit of rain on Memorial Day kept Tom and the girls away from the Marietta parade while visiting Tom's parents (where we spent the middle of the day to give Theresa space to rest, note: the later part of the day Tom rested/rest while the girls ran around at Theresa's parents). Regarding the rain, it appears that we're getting more rain at our place on the edge of Mount Joy than in Marietta, but most days we're still watering the sporadic grass growths in the morning and the evening.
While visiting, Tom's dad shared a number of postcards of the various Columbia-Wrightsville bridges with the family (colored photo of the bridge burned in 1863 to stop the advance of Confederate forces, the covered bridge replacing the burned bridge, the bridge giving out to the cyclone, a railroad bridge . . . other gems included the canal in front of Chickies, the trolley lines around/through Chickies, and Wild Cat's Glenn). In addition, Hayley and Ellen played paper dolls from Susan's childhood, which were never cut out, after running around in various old dresses from Amanda and Susan.

It should be noted that Eunice received a silver medal for her age category.
