Table of Plenty -- expanded

Since Tom promised I would write I guess I'd better!  As mentioned, Sat. was a busy day for the girls and I.  We spent the morning at the Messiah Village Festival where the girls enjoyed bouncing in some big inflatibles, playing a round of mini golf, and watching a fabulous magic show.  My dad enjoyed introducing his grand-girls to his colleagues (he works at The Village) and volunteered to grill hotdogs.  As Tom could not be there will us I bought him 2 used books at the book sale.  I can't believe I did that!  I even bought 2 for myself, including a fabulous novel I read a few years ago, Peace Like a River by Leif Enger.

Later in the day we attended the Community Day at the Milton Grove UM church which is a tiny church just up the road from us.  A few extended family members attended with us and I reconnected with a former schoolmate that I hadn't seen in 16 years.  Hayley, Ellen and even Eden enjoyed yet another bouncy inflatible (can life get any better for a little kid??).  We all had our fill of yummy food and Hayley and I both won cakes in the cake walk!  There were games, candy, and prizes for the kids.  We came home loaded with sugar and toys made in China.  As I write I'm "helping" the kids to reduce their candy supply.

On Sunday afternoon we attended the Donegal Presbyterian Church, http://www.donegalpresbyterianchurch.org/, open house which showcased the new addition to their building.  It's a beautiful facilty and will certainly see its share of use over the years.  As we were preparing to leave, those who were cleaning up asked us if we'd like to take home some extra food.  We walked off with an entire veggie tray, a fruit tray, and a pineapple.  Tonight for supper we enjoyed a fruit salad and later in the week stir-fry is on the menu :)  For some reason we have an uncanny ability to take home leftovers from whatever events we attend.  It makes me wonder why -- do people think that since we raise our own support we must be lacking grocery money?  Or is it b/c Tom is so thin that people think he must be undernourished?  Or do we just not understand some unspoken rules of etiquette that say you must refuse to take food that is offered?  We accept it gladly :)  But please let me know if I am commiting some terrible faux pas!

You crack me up! Two posts in one day!

I have to say, that part about taking home food, Tom being thin, ha! That is hysterical! I am also one who is glad to take food home - maybe we have legitimate need and so we are truly thankful! I am always grateful when church functions have leftovers and offer them. Here at EBIC we are encouraged to pay or donate - interesting to me. I haven't gotten used to that.

In any case, it's not a faux pas, but instead it's a good example of your ability to share resources in community! :)

Maybe the offers of leftovers come from being among the last to leave, combined perhaps with a history of accepting them. I've brought home my share of leftovers too.

Yes, excellent insights (neighbor 2 neighbor, sharing of our resources). Thank-you for your insights, do you feel better Theresa ;-) Tom
