Karl Barth Is Going Back to Prison!
Posted by tom | Oct 1, 2007For those of you concerned of Prisons Purging Books on Faith From Libraries, you'll be encouraged to read Karl Barth Is Going Back to Prison! (Thank-you to Amy for passing this along). What a title for the update ;-)
Although in general I am enthusiastic about this decision, I had a long conversation with the librarian of a local congregation regarding the discerning process of choosing resources which are most helpful for growth in Christ. I reguarly ask myself What is the next helpful resource to pass along to those with whom I'm having conversation? And just because a resource is published by, written by, intended for, or donated by a Christian does not mean the resource is helpful. Spiritual discernment is required within the Body of Christ and structures with which the Body of Christ publicly intersects. Note: I recently added Uncomfortable Bible Passages to my resource to review pile. Anyone read it and have feedback?
Tangential, but worth mentioning: With regard to the publications of InterVarsity Press (IVP), I'm part of a newly formed InterVarsity field staff advisory team. If you're an alum or on campus and have input regarding how IVP might better serve higher education, let me know.
