The News You've Been Waiting For

Posted by tom | Jan 8, 2008

It's a . . .

GIRL!  It's official -- we can only produce female children!  Today we went for an ultrasound to monitor the growth of the baby and we were able to find out what variety of baby it is.  Both the ultrasound tech and the doctor were quite sure of themselves, so we don't anticipate a surprise at birth.  And the baby looks great!  We have quite an active little one and the doctor tried to get a Kodak worthy 3D image of her, but b/c of her squirming it appears that I'm carrying an alien.  Needless to say, that picture won't be going on the Christmas card!

Thomas and Eden were there.  Eden was not nearly as impressed as I thought she should be.  She was really impressed with Daddy's new water bottle and talked incessantly about that during the ultrasound.

By now we've used 4 of the most beautiful girl names in the world (8 if you include middle names) and we're looking for suggestions.  We have an extensive list of boy names we'd be happy to share now since we won't be needing them.  But we're offering a prize to you if you suggest the name we decide to use.  What's the prize?  A book from our personal library!  I suggested a box of books -- a large box of books, but Tom said "no," just one book.  He also said, only one winner.  So if someone suggests "Sally" and you say, "oh, I like Sally too" and we name her Sally, only the first person to suggest the name gets the prize.  Personally I think we have more than enough books to go around, but he's a little possessive of them.  The internet is big, after all, and if Google got wind of our little contest Tom's bookshelves could be empty in a few months.  Hmm...

May I suggest Marlee? Or Marlee Joelle? :-) But if I'm the winner, I'll pass on the book offer. Thanks anyway!

Wow! Congratulations! Nothing wrong with bringing another beauty into the world.

    Congratulations!

How about Gemma? I saw a British actress named this and I thought sounded pretty and unusual...

I'm so excited - finally, a baby girl at EBIC this year! I'll think on the name...we've got our hands full with a boy name, and our deadline is closer!

Congratulations! At least you won't have to get ALL new clothes for this one. :-) I'll be thinking about names, we have a list from last time and there's a pretty high chance we won't be needing them all! (or any) :-)

    Blessings to your family,
    Shayna

Shayna, We passed along most of the girls clothes we had for our older girls and even if we had all of them, they would be out of season (June baby instead of February) . . . what were we thinking? Hopefully some friends will be able to loan us a new wardrobe. Tom & Theresa

Having named all of your children collectively, I look forward to the challenge of naming the newest Groshling. Is this a 1 entry per person sort of contest, or should I send a name of the day? :)

It needs to be a "H" for Hayley. Three "E"s and two "T"s? I like Hannah (though the Venables have that one). There's also Hope (if you haven't used it as a middle name).

You've named three girls with E names, and one with an H. Do you have a letter preference this time around? Do you want something traditional, eclectic, simple, complex...? A girl needs details, specifications, etc.

Let me know when you or Tom or all of you will be in our end of the state, and I will get some girl clothes ready for you. Even though I plan to keep some in case we need them again, we have LOADS of girl clothes, and I've been trying to decide if we should keep or get rid of them. I would love for you to have them.

Why not try something a little exotic- like the Arabic names I never got to use: Yasmin (or Jasmine- I think your oldest daughters would like that being Disney Princess fans), Sabrin (patient), Amani (my belief).

Andy, As many entries as you wish. Knock yourself out.

Erica, I like Hope. Like it so much it's Ellen's middle name. Sigh.

Serina, I can't say what category of name. I prefer something not totally trendy and something that will sound reasonable for an 85 year old woman as well as a cute toddler. Thanks for the clothing offer. Anything will come in handy. I'm not worried. Tom will be in 'da Burgh February 12-17(?).

Karen, we should be the perfect compliment to each other -- you with the boys and I with the girls. I like some of the Arabic names but I think they sound too exotic compared to the others in our family. Besides, can you imagine a little blond haired blue eyed girl with an Arabic name. It just doesn't go. We went through all the Disney princesses last night. No luck there.

For the H theme... how about Holly? Or... you could name her after your mother or grandmother.

    Posted by Katie, Jan 9 2008, 21:12

Heather is a nice H name, if I may say so. (:

Congratulations~ You've now joined ranks with the Forry's for having the most girls!

I do not have a name to suggest, but Sydney does. She thinks you should name her Isabel. I guess there are various spellings of that. I like it too, but officially, it's Syd' pick.

    Have a good day!

    Posted by Marci, Jan 15 2008, 07:59

Sydney also wants me to mention that Isabel (or Isabelle) means "my oath to God" or "content with God". Sorry I missed that in the previous post ;-)

Since Hayley is the only family member without a companion having the same first initial, how about Hannah (not necessarily the Montana variety although the girls would probably like that now) or Hazel. Maybe Holly. Stay away from Hildegard.

    Posted by Carl, Jan 15 2008, 21:15

I like the idea of having another "H" name...so I would vote for Hannah. :)
We've had a list of names, but I'd be interested in seeing your list of boy names just in case we end up with 4 boys!

    Posted by Lorie, Jan 16 2008, 08:52

A building case for the logic of choosing an 'H'-name, I'll bring this (along with the 2nd and 3rd vote for Hannah) back to Theresa. Any additional 'H'-name suggestions (to those given above) which I can have at my disposal?

As for a boy name, how about Thomas Bayard? Seriously, we do have a few other boy names. I'll pass along the request after Eden's finished with her therapy appointments.

    Posted by Tom, Jan 16 2008, 09:07

I vote for an "H" name to even things out, and Hannah is definitely a favorite since that is the name of one of our granddaughters. I think Hannah Mary would be perfect! Since I can't talk my own children into using such a lovely name, maybe I can talk someone else into it! I once knew a lady name Hannelore -- I think that is pretty, too -- German, I think. Congratulations! We now have 6 grandchildren -- 3 of each -- Patrick, Ciara, Hannah, Sean, Brady, and Ava Grace.

Let me suggest a variation on Hanna Mary -- I think Hannah Marie sounds more melodic. But I'm also really partial to Heather....
