Manufactured Landscapes
Posted by tom | Feb 24, 2008I spent Friday evening meditating upon Manufactured Landscapes. For me, the peak of the film was the shipbreaking beach, I was filled with prayer as I watched the children work in the oil sludge (earlier in the film I prayed through watching a village recycle computer parts/metal and need to ship water in due to the pollution). Here's the trailer
So how does one begin to shape a perspective on such concerns? Some locations which I've found of value include:
Au Sable On-Line Resources, Au Sable On-Line Adult Education ResourcesCreation Care
Care of Creation, note: Coming in April 2008, Ed Brown's Our Father's World: Mobilizing the Church to Care for Creation hits the InterVarsity Press shelves
On the broader issues of Environmental Stewardship, I have found Cal DeWitt (Au Sable's founder) work of greatest benefit. Cal has spoken for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at a number of conferences, including a Pittsburgh Graduate & Faculty Conference, a week-long Faculty Conference at Cedar Campus on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and one of the Following Christ Conferences. His Caring for Creation: Responsible Stewardship of God's Handiwork (Grand Rapids: Baker, 1998) is superb. Look for used copies on-line as it is currently out-of-print. Regent College's Loren Wilkinson's Earthkeeping in the Nineties: Stewardship of Creation (rev. ed.) is on the to read list. I have more to offer, but that is a good place to start. More on my framework regarding the call to care for/steward the creation as given to those 'created by God in the image of God' at the Creation, subsumed under loving God and loving neighbor in coming days . . .
