Into Great Silence

Into Great Silence was worth the wait. It took 16 years for the filmmaker to receive permission to receive access to film the Grande Chartreuse in the French Alps and about 2 years after hearing about the project for me finally see the film, along with the Bonus Material in full. Thank-you to Netflix, even with all the hassles regarding instant video and only having one CD out at given time.
I commend Into Great Silence to you because the movie offers the opportunity to reflect/meditate upon (and to a certain degree even enter into) the strict, monastic way of life. But I must confess that I find the Moravian and Hutterite communal visions, as given in First Fruits and The Hutterites: to care and . . . not to care, much more appealing/compelling. I must long to be a Medieval American with family, returning to my Moravian roots or get as close as Theresa will allow ;-) Note: For those which wonder, I'm not as moved to become Amish by films such as The Amish: Back Roads to Heaven or The Amish: How They Survive. Maybe the Amish are too close to home as they pass by our house every day.
