Mister Rogers' Neighborhood coming to an end?

Posted by tom | Sep 8, 2008

Scot McKnight's blog tipped me off to the difficult reality:  'Mister Rogers' Neighborhood' won't be shown on many PBS channels starting Monday. I mourn its decline/loss in the eyes of PBS and the general viewer. My love of the conversation with Mr. Rogers, since a very early age, has only increased as he competes with the newer, hip cartoons of this day and age.  Let me add, a few years in 'da Burgh enabled me to hear the testimonies of a number of people which knew Mr. Rogers along with being able to identify some of the neighborhood trips (!).  And in our home, day after day our three year old Eden sits transfixed to Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. ... just like her daddy ;-)

By-the-way, I see Mister Rogers' Neighborhood is still on PBS in Central PA, but has been moved from the 12:30 pm to 2 pm.  Not good, as he was a perfect transition to Eden's nap time AND Charlie Rose will not be!  Just to be sure, we'll check it out for ourselves tomorrow.  Maybe it's time for YouTube or Mr. Rogers on DVD.

I love Mr. Rogers and Emma has enjoyed it also. We get many of his DVDs from Hershey Library. So, we won't miss him on PBS much...but his ocntributions to our world are countless and significant! And I still sing his songs sometimes - such a comfort!

Dear Amy, Good to find another 'friend' from the neighborhood. Are you joining one of the facebook 'save Mr. Rogers' groups or sticking to the Hershey library? BTW, thank-you for the tip regarding the Hershey library. In Christ, Tom
