Join our family in prayer -- add Etown College

Posted by tom | Sep 25, 2008

In addition to the prayer requests given in Join our family in prayer, include Elizabethtown College

Background:  This morning at Conewago Coffee,* a first year student at Elizabethtown College asked if she could briefly chat with myself and a friend.  Why?  Because she had overheard part of our conversation regarding The Last Lecture taken a step further and realized that fellow believers were in room.

As a student at Elizabethtown College, she has felt isolated and out of place in her faith on campus.  I took the opportunity to share:

1.  my concerns regarding drinking on campus (the President's recent advocacy of lowering the drinking age in order to relieve the policing pressures of an institution which has in some circles become known as a party school)
2. the work of InterVarsity's undergraduate ministry on campus, with which she had already connected
3. the names of several Christian faculty, which she found very encouraging -- particularly the presence of a C.S. Lewis scholar!
4. the Young Center's rich array of research/lectures -- she had not previously heard of the Young Center.
5. an invitation to her and her friends to visit Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ.

Praise God for how he wove together this opportunity for His people to cross paths and be an encouragement to one-another.  Pray for this year to be one in which His Presence and Power bursts forth and becomes palpable on campus.  Pray for this student and her friends to become well connected with the people of God on campus and in local congregations in the community.  Pray for discernment in what role Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ might play in this Kingdom mission.

*If you're in the area, I'd encourage you to check out/support this local business.

Awesome story, Tom! I will also pray for E-Town College. I now drive by it a lot more often to take Emma to and from preschool, and yesterday was just lamenting the lack of EBIC's involvement with those students. May God bless the conversation you had today!
