October Campus Ministry Update

Posted by tom | Oct 14, 2008

Note:  Below is the October update which we sent to our Partners in the Campus Mission.  If you are not on our list, but have interest in receiving a monthly email highlighting our work, please drop us a note.  With regard to support, several new sponsors have stepped forward.  God provides! And a few others are considering the call to take part in seeing 'Students and Faculty Transformed, Campus Renewed, and World Changers Developed.'  If you desire more specifics, let us know.

--------------------

For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. -- II Corinthians 5:14-15

Dear Partners in the Campus Mission,

We hope that you've been keeping up-to-date with regard to our ministry and our family via http://www.groshlink.net/, because much has been happening.  A few highlights are given below.

1.  Last Friday, Tom presented on Randy Pausch's "Last Lecture" to a group at Penn comprised primarily of international graduate students.  In his presentation, he shared a significant amount of his own testimony with regard to facing illness, loss of our first child, cancer, and Eden's brain bleed leading to developmental delays.  For more see Praise God for His work at Penn on Friday night! and Randy’s Last Lecture. ...

2.  Praise from August:  Our fall schedule and details regarding the mid-Atlantic Graduate student winter retreat on Hospitality, which Tom will once again be directing, have come together.  Place February 13-15 on your prayer calendar and if you know graduate students in the mid-Atlantic area, encourage them to be in touch with us regarding this opportunity.

3.  Many of you have requested the opportunity to see photos of Lily Joy.  Check out a blog post with several photos by our photographer friend, Marci, http://mycirclephotos.blogspot.com/2008/08/sweet-baby.html ... and family pictures at http://mycirclephotos.blogspot.com/2008/10/special-family.html.

4.  Following Christ 2008, IVCF’s triennial conference for graduate students, faculty, & professionals, will be December 27–31.  Both of us are part of the prayer team for the conference.  Please join us in praying for students and faculty who will take advantage of this unique opportunity to explore Following Christ on campus and in vocation.  For more on the conference, visit http://www.followingchrist.org/

5.  With regard to finances, we realize that everyone is tight on resources at this time.  Your gifts enable this unique work to continue.  We ask you to begin prayerfully considering how you might give a year end gift and/or increase your support in the coming year to address shortfall from those who have recently told us they are unable to continue support.  Note:  Today Tom had two conversations which reinforced God's provision for His work through His people.  To God be the glory!

As we mentioned during the summer, if you would have interest in introducing us to friends at your local congregation or in the community who may have desire to learn more about how to speak the Gospel in the halls of power, drop us an email or call.  Although our fall schedule is filling up, I still have some availability for guest lectures in an adult Sunday School class, youth group, or missions program.  Information regarding how to direct your support is given below.

May God richly bless you as you grow more and more into the image of Christ Jesus,
