Lost: Still on the island? Swimming back?

Posted by tom | May 22, 2010

As I shared on Facebook, I left the island during the 2nd season. I'm curious as to what my friends who are still on the island think about re-engagement. Should I give Lost a 2nd chance by reading on-line series summaries and watching the end of the series OR watching the seasons on disc?

PS. Any more responses to As Lost Ends on ABC, Mythology Trumps Mystery?

Lost has turned fans into critics and critics, including this one, into semiprofessional fans, and in both cases you can sense that some exhaustion has set in. The mood among many of the show’s followers as they confront Sunday’s finale seems to be a mixture of regret and relief. Whatever happens ... I'd tell you, "It was a mistake to leave the island," but since you stopped watching in Season 2, you wouldn't get the reference. :)

Seasons 2 and 3 are a bit slow because the producers were stalling - Carlton Cuse has admitted this in an interview. Once they set the date for the final episode, the series really picked up steam again. The finales of Season 3 might be worth watching Seasons 2 & 3. Seasons 4, 5, & 6 are VERY good.

Watch, don't read - and I say this as someone who unabashedly learned everything I know about Doctor Who from Wikipedia. For a while, you could watch the entire series for free on ABC.com - not sure if that's still available.

Great to meet another friend "on the island" ;-) During my Facebook conversation, another friend mentioned ABC's streaming online, http://abc.go.com/watch/lost/93372?cid=fullepisodeaccess. This brought back a remembrance of some time which I spent reconstructing the series via a combination of on-line summaries and streaming video. True to the plot, I've no recollection as to why I did that or toward what end ... Maybe it was out of frustration that Heroes had fallen short for me somewhere in their 2nd (or was it 3rd season). Now that Heroes has come to a crashing end, maybe I'll also give Heroes another try, particularly since I've heard some good word on the season 4.

But first I must make a run to the TARDIS ;-)
