Disability: The Campus, The Gospel

Clemson professors criticize 'trivializing' disability awareness event (Carl Straumsheim. Inside Higher Ed. 3/7/2013).

Comment: Learning/policy-making involves head, heart, and hands. As the parent of a child with developmental delays and a friend of a number of other parents/children (of various ages), I'm not surprised at the mixed academic response.

But one must start somewhere and I'm not surprised that the students involved appreciate the opportunity to interact with participating administrators. Let us pray that such opportunities and conversations involve not only administrators and students (even parents), but also faculty in a shared, deeper engagement of "the outsider." May Christ followers be involved in such conversation and "next steps."

Tomorrow I'm attending Disability & the Gospel, Biblical Seminary. Joni Eareckson Tada will be joined by other passionate advocates for those with disabilities. Yes, I'll take notes/pictures to share with friends :)
