IVCF/Groshes: A New Academic Year

Posted by tom | Sep 11, 2013

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. -- II Corinthians 5:14 - 15

Christian Medical Society (CMS)/CMDA interview at Penn State Hershey College of Medicine.

Thomas and Theresa Grosh interviewed on "The Call to Care" at the Christian Medical Society (CMS)/CMDA which meets at the Penn State Hershey College of Medicine. 8/20/2013. Thank-you to Pete for taking the photo!*

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We invite you to rejoice with us -- as we closed out our fiscal year on June 30th we were able to do so "in the black"! The Lord provided, through generous giving from you, sufficient funds to cover the budget. Fiscal year end is always a stretching time for us as we do what we can but then wait to see how the Lord will provide for the ministry. And every year we are humbled at the ways he cares for us. Thank you for believing this ministry is important enough for you to give sacrificially to sustain it. And most importantly, thank you for your prayers on a daily basis. All the money in the world would be meaningless if it was given to a ministry that was not founded on prayer offered to the Lord.

Christian Medical Society (CMS)/CMDA dinner at Penn State Hershey College of Medicine.

The ministry at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, in partnership with the Christian Medical and Dental Association, began a new year in August (http://pennstatecms.wordpress.com). There is an enthusiastic new class of medical students who are seeking Christian fellowship and those who are simply seeking relationship with one another, regardless of faith. Pray that the Christian students would reach out in genuine friendship and love to all students and in doing so demonstrate the love of Christ. Note: The above picture is of a Christian Medical Society (CMS)/CMDA free pre-exam dinner for the first years at Penn State Hershey College of Medicine. Tonight will be the final one of three as the first years wrap up their first class (Anatomy and Physiology).

The Emerging Scholars Network blog (http://blog.emergingscholars.org/) continues to be an encouraging online community and valuable resource for Christians in higher education. I spend a great deal of time posting articles of interest and facilitating discussions centered on the challenges of expressing faith in Christ in the academy. As it continues to grow and develop this is proving to be a rewarding area of ministry. If you have recommendations of topics to be considered for the blog and/or the Facebook Wall (https://www.facebook.com/emergingscholars/), possibly even contributions, please let me know. The recommendations and contributors continue to grow.

This is also back to school time in our family. The twins began 8th grade with enthusiasm. The oldest is giving a go at Cross Country this fall and the younger one is eagerly awaiting the start of "drama season." The third oldest began 3rd grade in a new building and is having a blast. And the youngest embarked on her educational journey beginning with Kindergarten! Theresa is still trying to dig out from the summer, but assuming she ever gets her head above water she hopes to do more sewing and try to grow her business, Naptime Inspirations.

In Christ, Tom

AND yes, the Emerging Scholars Network website (http://www.emergingscholars.org) which I helped redesign/launch last fall is in the background. Currently I'm part of a team working on the redesign/launch of a new site for all InterVarsity's Graduate & Faculty Ministry (http://www.intervarsity.org/gfm/). Lord willing this will be up by calendar year end. Pray for God's grace, insight, and perseverance in this endeavor.
